Discounts on memberships
Set up discounts on buying and renewing memberships: five calculation types, a discount for renewing on time, template and schedule limits.
Why memberships get their own discounts
A membership discount reduces the cost of buying or renewing a membership, whereas a booking discount applies to the cost of a visit. These are different mechanics with different conditions, so in Wlaunch they live in neighbouring entries of the "Discounts" section and stay out of each other's way: booking discounts under "Records", and these under "Memberships".
If you need a discount on services rather than memberships, use discounts on bookings.
Before you start
The Memberships module has to be enabled, otherwise the entry will not appear. Access is governed by a separate "Promotions. Memberships" permission, for viewing and for creating.

Main fields
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Name | How the discount is named in the list and in the membership details |
| Description | Free text the administrator sees in the list of available discounts |
Like booking discounts, membership discounts are created at company level. In a company with several branches the form gains two more fields: Currency (used for monetary thresholds and fixed discounts) and Branches.
Unlike booking discounts, there is no "Provided only to cardholders" toggle here - cards apply to booking discounts only.
Scope
A discount is limited on the same principles as a booking discount, with one important difference: the main filter becomes membership templates.
- Membership templates
- Services
- Resources
- Sources
- Client categories
In a company with several branches Branches is added to them. As everywhere in this section, an empty list means "no restriction".
Validity period
The Perpetual toggle works the same way: turn it off to set the discount's Start Date and End Date.
Calculation types
The list of rules is arranged as it is for booking discounts - Calculation type, Bonus type (Percentage or Fixed) and rows with a condition and a reward. What differs is the calculation types themselves, and there are five (Fixed is selected by default):
| Calculation type | What the condition is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | No condition, the discount always applies | 10% on all memberships for the duration of the discount |
| Number of membership purchase | The sequence number of the purchase | 25% on a membership if this is the fifth purchase |
| Each membership purchase | A cyclic trigger | 20% on every third purchase |
| Total membership spend | How much the client has already spent on memberships | 10% for those who have spent more than 500 |
| Renewal window | How many days before expiry the renewal happens | 15% if renewed within 7 days before expiry |
Renewal window deserves special attention: it is the most direct way to fight churn. The discount goes to clients who renew a membership before it expires, within the set number of days. The client gains something for not taking a break, and you get a continuous membership instead of a repeat sale.
As with booking discounts, the Fixed type has no threshold: the condition field is inactive and there can be only one rule.

Limits and manual mode
Two options work identically to booking discounts:
- Limit hours/days of promotion - a schedule with two modes (Repeats on selected days of the week or Held on selected dates) and the option to set some hours.
- Do not apply automatically - the discount is not applied on its own, an administrator picks it. Handy for personal renewal offers.
Example: a discount for renewing on time
The most useful scenario in this section.
- Calculation type - Renewal window.
- Bonus type - Percentage.
- Rule: condition 7 days, reward 15%.
- Membership templates - leave empty so the rule applies to all of them, or pick specific ones.
- Period - Perpetual.
Now a client who renews a membership a week before it ends, or later but before it expires, gets a 15% discount.
To make sure they hear about it in time, pair it with a reminder:
Example: every third purchase is cheaper
- Calculation type - Each membership purchase.
- Bonus type - Percentage.
- Rule: condition 3, reward 20%.
Every third membership purchase automatically becomes 20% cheaper, indefinitely and without the administrator being involved.
