Home services software for work in the client's home or with the client's things

The household services category covers cleaning, photographers and videographers, service centers, grooming, repair, designers, dry cleaners and tailor shops. What they share is that the work happens either on the client's property or with the client's belongings: a jacket goes to the cleaners, a laptop to the service center, a dog to its grooming appointment. So home services software has to remember not only the time of a visit but also what exactly the client left and when it will be ready.

For the owner, that variety means the client base scatters easily: a phone number in a messaging app, a claim ticket in a drawer, a note about a dog's sensitive skin in the groomer's notebook. A client card with visit history pulls it all into one place, so a repeat request half a year later does not start with a round of questions. The unit of work differs from one line to the next: at a service center it is a device that goes through diagnostics first, at a tailor shop an order with several fittings, for a designer a project split into stages, and for a cleaning company an address the crew drives to.

By the way they work, these businesses split into two camps. Cleaning, photo shoots, grooming or a designer consultation are sold as a visit at a set hour, and the client books that time on their own. Renovation contractors and tailor shops instead work through orders that the office keeps track of: their module lists have no online booking, but they do have a warehouse for materials and fabric, a cash register and notifications to the client. Dry cleaners with drop-off points sit in between: a client can book a drop-off, and after that the order runs through the warehouse and the cash register. Cleaning stands out because its list has payroll instead of a cash register: paying cleaners from completed appointments beats keeping a separate notebook of addresses.

Some specialists in this category spend the day on the road or with tools in hand. The photographer, the videographer, the designer, a groomer at the salon and a service center technician all have the staff mobile app on their module lists, so they see their day on the phone and learn about a new appointment right away. The same app opens the client card, so before a shoot or a haircut they can reread the preferences noted last time. For grooming salons that comes with reminders for pet owners and a survey after the visit, and for photographers who shoot on location with memberships for a series of shoots.

Discounts appear in every line of work here, because household services live on regular clients: a family that books a cleaning every month, or an office that regularly sends its curtains out for cleaning. Discounts can be narrowed down to chosen services, resources or client categories, so a condition designed for one line of work leaves the rest alone. Surveys after the job are available almost everywhere except photo and video shoots, and they let you hear about a client's dissatisfaction before their friends do. If your business combines several lines, say dry cleaning and small clothing alterations, start with the page for the one that brings in most of the income and compare its module list with the neighboring one.
